YOUR AMERICAN FLAG

I'VE BEEN AROUND THE COUNTRY
AROUND THE WORLD I FLEW
I'VE BEEN IN THOSE OLYMIC GAMES AND
EVEN ON THE MOON

I'VE SAILED THE OCEAN'S WATERS
ON SHIPS AND FOREIGN LANDS
I'VE PARADED COLORS PROUDLY
UPON THE DESERT SAND

I'M A SYMBOL OF DEMOCRACY
OF FREEDOM.. AND OF PRIDE
AND TO HOLD ON TO THOSE FREEDOMS
I'VE SEEN MANY YOUNG MEN DIE

I'VE HEARD THE PLEDGE OF CHILDREN
I'VE HEARD THE SONGS THEY SING
I'VE HEARD THEM SHOUT TO ALL THE CROWDS
AND YELL "LET FREEDOM RING!!"

IN THE CIVIL WAR THEY CARRIED ME
IN THE BATTLES THEY WOULD FIGHT
SO THAT EVERY MAN AND WOMAN
COULD HAVE THEIR EQUAL RIGHTS

KOREA... VIET NAM.... THE GULF WAR...
AND WORLD WARS I AND II
I WAS HELD THERE FIRMLY IN THE GRASP
OF SOLDIERS STRONG AND TRUE

I'VE BEEN DRAPED ACROSS THE CASKETS
OF MANY WHO HAVE DIED
FOR THE FREEDOMS THAT YOU ALL ENJOY
WHILE YOU ARE STILL ALIVE

THE COLOR, RED, HERE IN MY STRIPES
IS FOR THE BLOOD THAT HAS BEEN SHED
BLOOD KNOWS NO COLOR OF YOUR SKIN
FOR AMERICAN BLOOD IS RED

SO WHEN YOU SEE ME FLYING
OR DISPLAYED UPON A WALL
I HOPE YOU'LL
THINK MORE OF ME
THAN "JUST A PIECE OF CLOTH"

I HOPE YOU WILL REMEMBER...
I'M MORE THAN JUST A RAG
AND SO ARE THOSE WHO DIED FOR YOU
AND ME..... YOUR AMERICAN FLAG
