THOMAS WILLIAMS First Lieutenant Thomas Earl Williams Jr. USMCR 0100873/7562 was from Pensacola, Fla. He was born on December 26, 1943. He arrived in Vietnam on September 29, 1968. He was 25 years old at the time of his death. Lieutenant Williams was participating in his first flight after returning from the hospital where he had been recovering from wounds received in a fire-fight following a shoot-down which placed him and his crew in an enemy position. Williams assumed the lead in attacking the enemy forces, allowing the rescue of his crew. For that action he received the Navy Cross while still in the hospital. He died on May 2, 1969 in Quang Tri Province while acting as the co-pilot of CH-46D buno 152559 which crashed on land after a mid-air collision with an army UH-1. His body was recovered. He was married. His religion was Protestant. His race is officially listed as Caucasian. He had six years service at the time of his death.
